The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) says it has not received any court notices challenging the conduct of the August 30 local government elections.
RSIEC Commissioner for Political Parties Affairs, Monitoring, and Security, Prof. Godfrey Woke, disclosed this in a statement Today. He explained that the only correspondence received was from lawyers representing the Emeka Beke-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), notifying the commission of a court judgment recognising the group as the party’s authentic leadership in the state.
Prof. Woke further revealed that 17 political parties will take part in the elections, excluding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Boot Party. He added that the list of cleared candidates for councillorship and chairmanship positions will be published within the week.
