The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) on Tuesday hosted Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, at its headquarters in Abuja, in celebration of their recent triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
The team, led by Coach Rene Wakama and Captain Amy Okonkwo, was received by the Chairman of the NNPC Ltd. Board, Engr. Musa Ahmadu Kida, who is also the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). The visit followed D’Tigress’ dominant performance in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where they defeated Mali 78–64 in the final to secure their fifth consecutive continental title and seventh overall.
Kida praised the team’s resilience and historic unbeaten run in Africa over the last decade, describing their achievement as a testament to hard work and consistency. He commended both the players and coaching crew for making the country proud.
Also speaking during the reception, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, congratulated the team and the National Sports Commission (NSC), represented by its Chairman, Mr. Shehu Dikko. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of sports in Nigeria.
Staff of NNPC Ltd. turned out in large numbers to celebrate with the team. In return, the team’s representatives expressed appreciation for the warm reception and pledged to continue striving for excellence on the global stage.
