The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has approved the employment of 30 Ogoni indigenes, marking a major step in its renewed relationship with Ogoni land.
Employment letters have already been issued to the successful candidates, who are expected to assume duty in January 2026.
The Managing Director of NNPC, Mr. Bayo Ajulari, disclosed this in Port Harcourt while speaking on the company’s growing involvement in security and development initiatives in the region.
Ajulari explained that NNPC is actively participating in activities being coordinated under the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), noting that the company is fully integrated into ongoing operations and initiatives in Ogoni land.
He said NNPC’s engagement in the area now goes beyond oil exploration to focus on the people, their environment, and sustainable development.
According to him, the Ogoni experience represents a new model of collaboration in Nigeria’s energy sector, built on dialogue, inclusion, and environmental responsibility.
Ajulari revealed that the employment of 30 Ogoni indigenes, a commitment that had not been previously made public, has reached its final stage, with all offers already delivered.
He added that NNPC is proud to welcome the new employees when they resume work in January 2026.
Describing the ongoing engagement as a blueprint for a “new Nigeria,” Ajulari said the lessons from Ogoni would guide the company’s approach to similar situations nationwide.
He reaffirmed NNPC’s commitment to responsible re-engagement, sustainable energy development, and long-term partnerships that balance community welfare with national economic objectives.
