The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has hailed Governor Wike for the construction of Mother and Child Hospital in Rivers State, describing it as a strategic response to health care delivery in the country.
National President of the NMA, Prof. Innocent Ujah disclosed this during the inspection of the hospital with a group professionals from the state.
He said a lot of healthcare challenges in the country will be addressed by the hospital as there has been a dearth of care for mothers and children in the country.
He said, “I am a gynaecologist with over 35 years of experience. I can tell you that we have lacked the care for the mother and child health needs. This is clearly a response to that need.
“There is need for us to have health facilities that will help us to reduce the high maternal deaths in pregnancy and childbirth. Infant mortality needs to be reduced too.
“This Mother and Child Hospital will serve as the fulcrum by which we can turn around the system in the South-South. This will ensure that we have quality health for our mothers and children,” he added.
Prof. Ujah also commended the Governor of the State for his vision and achievements in infrastructural development.
