The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Rivers State, Dr. Diamond Tamunokuro, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his commitment to revamping the state’s health sector.
Speaking during a media briefing to mark the 2025 Physicians’ Week, Dr. Tamunokuro praised the governor for the swift resumption of previously abandoned health projects, the approval of payments owed to health workers, and the reinstatement of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh.
He, however, stressed the urgent need to review the salaries of doctors in the state, citing the increasing number of medical practitioners seeking to leave the country.
The NMA Chairman also emphasized the importance of improving the work environment for doctors by ensuring better security, living conditions, and a stronger health insurance scheme to enhance healthcare delivery across Rivers State.
