Three Oil companies, the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas company, NLNG, the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, and The Exonn Mobil Producing Unlimited Company operating in Rivers have resolved to collaborate in establishing a 30-Bed COVID-19 Treatment Centre in Bonny Local Government Area of the state.
The decision was reached at a meeting held at Government House Port Harcourt today between the governor and the three oil companies. The project is expected to be completed within the next four weeks.
Governor Nyesom Wike in his remarks expressed delight over the decision by the three international oil companies to collaborate in establishing the COVID-19 Treatment Centre.
He said the meeting was called to address the situation in Bonny where some tests conducted so far paints the picture of the area likely becoming an epicentre of the pandemic in the state.
The governor reiterated that 60 percent of the COVID-19 patients in the state are oil workers. He said the situation has vindicated his position on the need for oil companies to cooperate with the state government to fully implement the COVID-19 preventive protocol.
Furthermore, he called on the oil giants to provide basic hygiene items like hand sanitisers and water at strategic places in Bonny LGA.
