Contract workers with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) in Bonny on Thursday staged a protest over alleged excessive tax deductions from their salaries.
The workers, who are engaged under DEAWOOD Contractor, accused the company of deducting not less than ₦150,000 monthly from each employee’s pay for more than two years.
According to the aggrieved workers, repeated complaints prompted the engagement of tax experts, whose audit reportedly confirmed that the deductions were far above statutory requirements.
Despite the findings, the protesting employees allege that DEAWOOD has continued with the monthly over-deductions and has failed to refund monies already taken, contrary to the auditors’ recommendations.
