The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming that two years into his tenure, Nigerian workers and the general populace have endured increased hardship with no tangible benefits.
In a statement marking the administration’s second anniversary, NLC President Joe Ajaero said there is “nothing to celebrate,” accusing the government of deepening economic misery rather than delivering promised reforms.
“When President Bola Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023, he pledged bold economic changes aimed at rescuing Nigeria from fiscal distress,” Ajaero said. “However, two years on, those promises have only translated into deeper suffering for workers and ordinary citizens.”
Ajaero condemned the administration’s policy direction as a repetition of past neoliberal strategies, which he argued have failed to address Nigeria’s economic woes. “You cannot cure a patient by prescribing the poison that made them sick in the first place,” he stated.
