The Federal Government of Nigeria, has directed telecommunication companies to bar all SIMs not yet registered and linked with the National Identity Number, today.
President, Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Digital and New Media, Bashir Ahmaad in a post on Twitter, said the National Identity Management Commission and the Nigerian Communications Commission made this known in a joint statement, Today.
“The Federal Government has directed telecommunication companies to bar all outgoing calls on unlinked lines (SIMs not yet registered and linked with the National Identification Number (NIN) from TODAY, 4/4/2022, NCC and NIMC, disclosed this in a joint statement, today,” he said.
NIN and NIMC in the statement said, “Outgoing calls will subsequently be barred for telephone lines that have not complied with the NIN-SIM linkage Policy from the April 4th, 2022.
“Subscribers of such lines are hereby advised to link their SIMs to their NINs before the telcos can lift the restriction on their lines.
