Abuja – The Federal Government announced on Wednesday that Nigeria’s daily petrol consumption has declined to 50 million litres, with local refineries contributing half of the total supply.
Addressing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, the Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Mr. Ogbugo Ukoha, clarified that the remaining half is being sourced through importation.
Ukoha emphasized that none of the companies engaged in domestic refining are involved in petrol imports. He added that importation remains necessary to prevent fuel shortages in the downstream sector.
