The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a decline in Nigeria’s inflation rate, which fell to 22.22 per cent in June 2025 from 22.97 per cent recorded in May.
This was disclosed in the June 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the Bureau on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to the report, the CPI rose to 123.4 in June, up from 121.4 in May, indicating a 2.0-point increase.
“In June 2025, the Headline inflation rate eased to 22.22% relative to the May 2025 headline inflation rate of 22.97%,” the NBS stated.
The agency explained that the 0.76 percentage point drop reflects a slight moderation in inflationary pressures compared to the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, headline inflation in June 2025 was 11.97 percentage points lower than the 34.19 percent recorded in June 2024.
“This shows that the headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) decreased in June 2025 compared to the same month in the preceding year,” the report noted, adding that the calculation is based on a rebased CPI series using November 2009 = 100.
However, on a month-on-month basis, the report said inflation stood at 1.68% in June, up from 1.53% in May, suggesting a faster increase in average price levels within the month under review.
