ATLANTA — Nigerian sprinter Favour Chukwuka Ofili has set a new world record in the women’s 150m, clocking an unprecedented time of 15.85 seconds at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. The 22-year-old athlete, known as “Star Girl,” shattered the previous mark of 16.23 seconds set by Bahamian Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.
Ofili’s historic performance marks the first time a female sprinter has broken the 16-second barrier in the rarely contested event. American Tamari Davis finished second with a time of 16.14 seconds—also faster than the previous world record.
While the 150m is not a standard event at major international championships such as the Olympics or World Championships, Ofili’s achievement adds to her growing reputation in sprinting, where she also competes in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.
