Former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed deep concern over the worsening economic situation in Nigeria, accusing the federal government of abandoning its responsibilities in favour of electoral manipulation.
Speaking during a public engagement on Wednesday, Amaechi lamented that Nigerians were grappling with severe hardship, unable to afford basic necessities due to soaring inflation and widespread poverty.
“People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money. Everything is gone. Inflation is at its peak,” he said.
Amaechi further alleged that instead of addressing the pressing economic crisis, the federal government was preoccupied with the 2027 general elections.
He called for the formation of a people-driven political movement, not just a political party, to rescue the nation from what he described as a deteriorating state.
“We must start not just a party, but a movement — a movement that empowers Nigerians to take over government themselves,” he added.
