Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, DSSRS, was yesterday honoured with a “Distinguished Service Award” by the revered NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (NMA) for what they described as his “immense contributions to healthcare development and administration in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State”, and signed by the Association’s State Chairman, Dr. Ebbi D. Robinson and the Secretary, Dr. Hope O. Ovunda.
In a lavish luncheon which held at Azny Place in Port Harcourt, NMA’s Chairman took time to laud the quality of service delivery Hon. George continues to bring to his people since assuming office as Executive Chairman over two years ago, describing him as a shining star amongst his peers in the State. Dr. Robinson appreciated the work done by the Executive Chairman crisscrossing several sectors, but particularly in the Health sector, to which a professional is appointed to head as Supervisor amidst other outstanding achievements.
Hon. Onengiyeofori George, DSSRS, was just one of two LGA Chairmen in Rivers State to be honoured, the other being the Executive Chairman of Andoni LGA, Barr. Erastus Awortu. Notably also, Hon. George was the third to be honoured in a line of awardees that included Amaopusenibo Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, Dr (Mrs) Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs, amongst others.
The Luncheon and Award Ceremony was the culmination of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Rivers State Chapter’s 63rd Annual General Meeting, and served as a time to unwind and relax. Another highlight of the ceremony was the induction of senior medical practitioners into the NMA’s Elders Council to which a former Senator from ASALGA and prominent political stakeholder, Senator (Dr) Denton West, was among the inducted.
