The Federal Government of Nigeria, has said that there is a deliberate effort to restart the production of vaccines, which is why it went into a venture agreement with Bio-vaccines through Mayor and Baker.
Dr. Shuaib, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA, disclosed this during a media briefing yesterday.
He said the process of producing a vaccine is very complicated, as it takes up to 10 or 15 years to start.
“There are questions around why we are not producing the COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria. I want to just put on record that the process of producing a vaccine is very complex and complicated. You don’t just go to a shelf and pick up a vaccine.
“So, it requires massive investments that have not been done for many decades. In the past, in the 1960s, we used to make Yellow Fever vaccines in this country.
Shuaib also advised Nigerians to observe all COVID-19 protocols as the virus is real and swift in its spread.
