Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has disclosed that the country provided the intelligence that led to the recent United States military strike in Nigeria.
Tuggar made the revelation while speaking on the circumstances surrounding the operation, noting that there were direct high-level consultations between Nigerian and US authorities before the strike was carried out.
According to the minister, he held an extensive phone conversation with the United States Secretary of State, Mr Marco Rubio, lasting about 19 minutes prior to the operation. He added that both officials spoke again for approximately five minutes shortly before the strikes were executed.
He explained that the engagements were part of diplomatic and security coordination between both countries, aimed at addressing security threats within Nigeria.
The minister’s comments come amid growing public debate over the role of foreign powers in Nigeria’s security operations and the extent of cooperation between Abuja and Washington in combating terrorism and other security challenges.
