The Federal Government of Nigeria, says it has ordered additional 41 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, but stated that it is unsure of its arrival date.
Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire who made this known in a TV interview on Thursday, said the country is allocated three types of the 41 million doses.
He said the vaccine was secured through the African Vaccine Acquisition TaskTeam (AVATT).
He noted that the procurement of the vaccine for African countries is being financed by the Afrexim bank, and countries are expected to make a refund on a later date.
Ehanire also said they do not have an exact date the vaccine would arrive. “The date it comes out depends on when the manufacturers are able to deliver, and that is not something any country can enforce.”
Nigeria had earlier secured 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX facility.
