Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has declared that Nigeria requires visionary leaders like President Bola Tinubu to realise national aspirations and overcome longstanding developmental challenges.
Speaking on Thursday during the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture titled “The Nigeria of Our Dreams” at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Wike emphasized that bad leadership remains Nigeria’s most pressing obstacle.
Quoting renowned author Chinua Achebe’s assertion that “the trouble with Nigeria is fairly and squarely the absence of proper leadership,” Wike said the statement remains accurate and deeply reflective of the country’s political history.
“Our leaders have, in the main, emerged through self-serving conspiracies that have little or nothing to do with national interests and development,” he stated, adding that the pattern spans both military and civilian regimes.
He, however, praised President Tinubu as a standout leader capable of steering the country toward sustainable development and prosperity, describing him as a figure embodying the leadership Nigeria needs to fulfil its potential.
