President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmed Lawan says Federal Government must continue to borrow because the country is poor.

Lawan who disclosed this yesterday, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari said the country do not have the needed finance to carryout massive projects, like other rich countries.

He said the government cannot tax Nigerians to carryout projects, as the only option is to borrow.

“So, you cannot put taxes on the people. The only option left is for us to borrow responsibly, utilise prudently and economically, and ensure that the projects are self-sustaining; that they can pay back the loans,” he said.

“You cannot, in my view and judgement, tax Nigerians further for you to raise the money for infrastructural development; other countries do that, but we have serious situation across the country,” he added.
