The Niger State Government has confirmed the abduction of students from St. Mary’s Private Secondary School in Agwara Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, authorities said the exact number of abducted students has not yet been determined, as security agencies are still assessing the situation.
The incident occurred despite earlier intelligence reports warning of heightened security threats across parts of the Niger North Senatorial District. Acting on those reports, the government had ordered a halt to all construction activities and directed the temporary closure of all boarding schools in the affected areas.
Usman noted with regret that St. Mary’s Private Secondary School reopened for academic activities without seeking the mandatory clearance from the government, a decision he said exposed students and staff to preventable danger.
