The Nigerian Navy’s Operation Delta Sanity II recorded significant success in March 2025, with a series of raids across the Niger Delta targeting crude oil theft and illegal refining activities.
According to Commodore A Adams-Aliu, Director of Information, the Navy dismantled over 30 illegal refinery sites, seized more than 300,000 litres of stolen crude and refined products, and arrested several suspects. Arms and ammunition were also recovered in some operations.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to securing Nigeria’s oil assets and supporting the president’s directive to boost crude oil production.

March 7: Illegal refinery site with 5,500 litres of crude oil and 2,000 litres of AGO dismantled in Delta State
March 8: Wooden boat with 40,000 litres of crude oil seized in Rivers State
March 9: Vessel MFT Olokun VIII arrested in Bayelsa with arms and ammunition; two suspects detained
March 10–31: Multiple illegal sites deactivated across Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Ondo; over 200,000 litres of crude and refined products seized
March 27: Cultist camp, vandalised wellheads, and storage sites uncovered in Rivers and Ondo States
The Navy urges public cooperation through timely intelligence to sustain the fight against oil theft.
