Fifty pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Private Primary and Secondary Schools in Niger State have escaped from their captors and returned safely to their families.
The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state and Bishop of the Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, announced the development on Sunday in a statement issued by his media aide, Daniel Atori.
Yohanna said the escape was confirmed during a visit to the affected parents, offering a glimmer of hope amid the ongoing crisis.
According to him, 236 pupils remain in captivity, including three children of staff members and 14 secondary school students. In total, 253 children and 12 staff members are still being held.
He noted that the latest update comes just days after armed attackers kidnapped 303 pupils and students during a raid on the school.
