The Rainbow Watch and Development Centre (RWDC), a non-governmental organization in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has called on the state Government to establish special entrepreneurship centres for people with disabilities in the state.
Executive Director of the group – Michael Lenee Gbarale made the call in a statement on Friday.
He said the non-inclusion and lack of budgetary plans for people with disabilities is disappointing.
He also said they have observed the neglect of the community of persons with special needs by the previous administration and hopes the present administration does not continue to infringe on the rights of people with disabilities.
Lenee called on the government to urgently create a budget which will be disbursed appropriately for the welfare of people with disabilities.
He stated that the establishment of inclusive entrepreneurship centres and schools will enhance the training of people with disabilities.
He added that the only school for people with disabilities, which is the School of Handicapped Children, located at Creek Road in Port Harcourt township, is now in a deplorable condition as it has been abandoned.
