The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed widespread reports claiming that a decision has been reached by FIFA over Nigeria’s protest against DR Congo national football team regarding the alleged use of ineligible players.
The controversy stems from Nigeria’s defeat on penalties to the Leopards in the final round of the African play-offs last November, a result that ended the Nigeria national football team’ chances of progressing to the intercontinental play-offs for the 2026 World Cup.
Following the elimination, the NFF submitted a formal complaint to FIFA, questioning the eligibility status of some DR Congo players. The federation argued that Congolese nationality law does not recognise dual citizenship, raising concerns about players who reportedly hold European passports while representing the country.
Reacting to recent online claims, NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, said no ruling has been issued by FIFA and described circulating reports as false and misleading.
According to him, neither the Nigerian federation nor its Congolese counterpart has received any official communication indicating that a verdict has been reached.
The NFF said the clarification became necessary due to growing online speculation and fake documents alleging that FIFA had awarded Nigeria a 3–0 victory and reinstated the team in the qualification race. The federation urged the public to ignore such reports.
