The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has expressed deep concern over the escalating rate of drug abuse in Rivers State, warning that the trend is contributing to an increase in social problems, especially among the youth population.
Speaking to Rhythm News, the Deputy State Commander in charge of Operations and Training, Emmanuel Ogbumgbada, revealed that many young people in Port Harcourt are now living on the streets due to substance abuse. He described the situation as alarming and called for urgent action.
Ogbumgbada noted that while the agency is committed to rehabilitating drug addicts, its efforts are being hampered by inadequate funding. He appealed to well-meaning individuals and organizations to support the NDLEA in its campaign to combat drug abuse and provide rehabilitation services to those in need.
He emphasized that collaborative efforts from the public are essential to reversing the disturbing trend and saving the future of the affected youth.
