Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) came under attack by hoodlums during a raid in a suspected drug-infested area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident occurred at Oduneze Lane, Mile 3, Diobu, in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, when the operatives stormed the area following credible intelligence on illicit drug activities.
It was gathered that the hoodlums launched the attack in an attempt to rescue their gang members who had been arrested by the NDLEA. The assailants reportedly used various weapons against the officers.
Confirming the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the Head of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA in Rivers State, Ugo Olisaemeka-Iyi, said the operatives were confronted by suspected drug dealers who regrouped and launched a violent assault.
He noted, however, that despite the resistance, the NDLEA team successfully completed the operation and left the scene with the arrested suspects.
Olisaemeka-Iyi commended the operatives for their courage and professionalism, assuring that the agency remains resolute in its commitment to rid Rivers State of illicit drug activities.
