Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has alleged that the Niger Delta Development Commission, spent about N10 billion on election in the state.
Wike said this when the newly appointed NDDC Chairman, Lauretta Onochie paid him a courtesy visit in Government House Port Harcourt, Today.
The governor said this while urging the commission to make a difference and stop the unnecessary waste of resources.
He also accused the commission of entering and awarding projects in states including Rivers without recourse to existing development master plan and that what is seen eventually, is duplication of projects.
“NDDCs become a cash cow for politicians. Look back in the money NDDC lost in this state just to win election here. N10 B wasted. N10B you could have used to construct a mega project in the State,” he said.
“I read what you said that things will be done differently. I want to believe you’re sincere. Sometimes, I feel ashamed where I come from. We talk about underdevelopment, but look at the amount of money that has passed through NDDC, then look at the projects on ground,” he added.
