The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to strengthen and expand the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises–Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) programme, with a target of creating no fewer than 38,250 new agricultural entrepreneurs across the region.
The Managing Director of the Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, disclosed this during a one-day workshop on Scaling Up Youth Agripreneurship for Food Systems Transformation held at the Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Dr Ogbuku said the LIFE-ND initiative is designed to empower youths and households in the Niger Delta through agribusiness development, job creation and increased participation in key agricultural value chains. According to him, the expansion of the programme will further position agriculture as a viable source of livelihood and economic growth for the region.
He noted that the NDDC remains committed to youth empowerment and food security, adding that scaling up agripreneurship is critical to addressing unemployment, boosting local production and transforming Nigeria’s food systems.
The workshop brought together stakeholders in agriculture, development partners and youth-focused organisations to explore strategies for expanding agribusiness opportunities and enhancing sustainable food production in the Niger Delta.
