The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting security agencies in safeguarding Nigeria’s waterways as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s emerging blue economy.
Ogbuku made the pledge while addressing participants at the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), held at the International Conference Centre in Enugu.
He stressed that the blue economy holds the key to the future of the Niger Delta, noting its potential to drive economic growth, tackle youth unemployment, enhance food security, and aid climate change adaptation.
“The blue economy is central to the future of the Niger Delta region. It will strengthen our economy, lessen the burden of youth unemployment, improve food security, and support efforts to adapt to climate change,” Ogbuku said.
The NDDC chief, who was accompanied by the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, emphasized that the successful implementation of Nigeria’s national policy on marine and blue economy would depend heavily on the collaboration of security agencies to ensure safe and secure waterways.
