The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with the Federal and Rivers State Ministries of Environment, has commenced an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Dema community, Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The commission in a statement said the exercise is part of preparatory efforts for key infrastructure projects designed to enhance road access and regional connectivity within the Niger Delta. It also involves site verifications and extensive stakeholder engagements with traditional rulers, women and youth groups, and civil society organisations.
Representing the Minister of Environment, Mr. Balarabe Abbas, the ministry’s official, Engr. Silas Manji, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that all development projects adhere to environmental sustainability standards.
He noted that the ongoing assessment reflects the government’s focus on balancing development with ecological preservation.
The NDDC said the initiative aligns with its broader vision of promoting inclusive and sustainable growth, ensuring that communities benefit from infrastructure projects without compromising environmental integrity.
