The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated seven waste segregation disposal facilities to Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, as part of efforts to enhance environmental sustainability on campus.
During the official handover, NDDC’s Director of Environmental Protection and Control, Engr. Obeka Onouha, said the donation was in response to the university’s request, citing the institution’s commitment to a green campus policy. He noted that the facilities would complement the existing waste management system and improve waste collection and segregation.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the university’s Director of Works, Arc. Henry Onu, expressed appreciation for the commission’s continued support and pledged that the equipment would be properly utilized.
The handover ceremony followed a roadshow organized by the NDDC to mark World Environment Day 2025, themed “End Plastic Pollution.” The events are part of the commission’s broader initiative to promote environmental awareness and action across the region.
