The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commissioned a modern naval facility in Ayakoro, Bayelsa State, aimed at enhancing maritime security and promoting peace across the Niger Delta region.
Speaking during the event, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said the project underscores the Commission’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to safeguard waterways, boost oil production, and foster sustainable development in the region.
Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that the facility is part of NDDC’s broader initiative to support critical infrastructure that ensures safety and stability in communities within the Niger Delta.
Representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Noel Madugu commended the NDDC for its strategic intervention, describing the project as a valuable contribution to national security. He noted that the new facility would enhance maritime surveillance and improve the Navy’s operational response against illegal oil bunkering, piracy, and other criminal activities in the region.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, military officials, and representatives of the Bayelsa State Government, who lauded the NDDC’s effort in supporting peace and security initiatives in the oil-rich region.
