The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced a N30 billion fund to support the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA) aimed at enhancing the development of young entrepreneurs in the region.
During a recent interview, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku emphasised the Commission’s commitment to empowering the youths through economic initiatives, including training and support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
He highlighted the importance of documenting and verifying support for genuine businesses, asserting that the government cannot employ everyone but can create an environment for entrepreneurship.
Ogbuku also discussed the NDDC Youth Internship Scheme, which will train youths by connecting them with organisations for practical skill development. He mentioned that the consultant managing the application process is working to streamline entries and ensure a coordinated launch of the various skill areas by January 2025.
He said successful applicants are expected to be notified soon, with the initiative designed to foster economic growth and peace in the Niger Delta by engaging youths in meaningful ventures and promoting entrepreneurship through structured support from the NDCCITMA.
