The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory following suspected cases of Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) reported in Abuja.
In a statement, the agency confirmed that two recent suspected cases tested negative for Ebola and Marburg viruses. However, it noted that further tests are ongoing to determine possible infections from other VHFs such as Lassa fever and Dengue.
The NCDC commended the swift action of health workers and early reporting by a traveller, which helped minimise potential risks to the public.
The agency urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to preventive measures. These include seeking immediate medical attention when unwell, especially after travel, practising regular handwashing and good hygiene, and avoiding contact with individuals showing unexplained fever, bleeding, vomiting, or diarrhoea.
It also warned citizens to disregard rumours and rely only on verified updates from the NCDC.
For guidance or to report symptoms, the public is advised to call the toll-free line 6232 or follow the agency’s official handle, @NCDCgov, for real-time information.
