The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) says it is concerned about the profane content of the Big Brother Naija reality show and will take action.
The Commission’s position follows a petition by activist lawyer Maduabuchi Idam, who called for the ban or restriction of the programme’s public broadcast.
NBC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Pauline Ehusani, acknowledged receipt of the petition on behalf of the Director.
In its response, NBC stated: “Your complaint dated 4th August 2025, in respect of the above subject matter.
“Kindly note that our Act is now referred to as the National Broadcasting Commission Act, Cap N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
“Regarding the subject of your complaint, please be informed that the Commission is equally concerned with the brazen contravention of the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code (6th Edition) which clearly prohibit the airing of obscene content.”
“Be assured that the Management of the Commission is already on the issue and vital decisions will be taken to ensure compliance with the rules by all concerned.
“In the same vein, the Commission is tasking you and other well-meaning Nigerians to immediately flag such content as soon as it appears on social media; if flagged enough, such content could be taken down permanently.”
