The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has said that broadcast stations will be heavily sanctioned over messages that “insult” elders and leaders of the country.

Chibuike Ogwumike, the Lagos Zonal Director of the NBC, who made this known in a statement Today, said holding leaders accountable “must not be done in abusive language”.

He said, “The recourse to abusing, denigrating and insulting the President, Governors, MPs and other leaders does not show us as cultured people.”

The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, had yesterday, fined  Nigeria Info 99.3FM Lagos, the sum of N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira), for providing its platform for a guest, Dr. Mailafia Obadiah, to promote what it termed, “unverifiable and inciting views.”
