The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder says it has uncovered an illegally tapped oil wellhead around Cawthorne Channel 2, in Degema local government area Rivers State.
Commander of the Pathfinder, Desmond Igbo, disclosed in a statement.
He said the wellhead was discovered by its surveillance team on Tuesday, and that six clustered illegal refining sites with a production capacity of three million litres of Automotive Gas Oil per day were dismantled when they stormed the location on Wednesday.
He revealed that operators of the well had installed a six inch pipeline running over 2kilo metres from the wellhead to the three million litres capacity reservoir, which distributes crude to the six illegal refining camps.
He advised youths to desist from the act or face the full weight of the law when caught.
