The Nigerian Navy has yet to respond to a heated altercation involving one of its officers and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Tuesday.
A trending video captured the tense exchange between the Minister and the naval officer after Wike was prevented from accessing a disputed piece of land on orders reportedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff.
During the confrontation, Wike insisted that the land was acquired illegally by the former naval chief, while the officer maintained that its acquisition was legal. The disagreement escalated into a verbal clash, with the Minister using strong words as the officer stood his ground, barring access to the property.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions across social media and among Nigerians. Despite the public attention, the Nigerian Navy has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
Speaking to journalists after the confrontation, Wike reiterated that the land was illegally acquired and warned that the former military chief would not be allowed to develop it without following due process.
