The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory has successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims from a kidnappers’ den along the Calabar waterways, reaffirming the Navy’s commitment to maritime security and safety.
The victims were reportedly abducted on September 25, 2025, while travelling from Calabar to Oron aboard a Sea Express passenger boat. Following the incident, personnel of NNS Victory immediately launched a coordinated search and rescue operation to secure their release.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Navy team swiftly mobilised and deployed gunboats to block all possible escape routes within the creeks and adjoining waterways. The sustained blockade and relentless pressure from NNS Victory personnel over several days compelled the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee. All 17 victims were rescued safely without any casualties.
The rescued passengers were taken to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Calabar, for medical evaluation and care, before being handed over to Sea Express Transit Limited for proper documentation and reunion with their families.
The Nigerian Navy, through this successful operation, reaffirmed its unwavering resolve to protect law-abiding citizens, ensure freedom of navigation, and maintain a secure maritime environment essential for socio-economic development along Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.
