The Nigerian Navy has uncovered and dismantled several illegal oil refining operations in Rivers State as part of its ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
On Thursday, June 19, 2024, personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER discovered and deactivated an illegal connection to a wellhead, two illegal refining sites equipped with three refining ovens, and four dug-out pits containing an unspecified quantity of stolen crude oil in Egbema, Rivers State.
Similarly, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, operatives from Forward Operating Base (FOB) BONNY deactivated three crude oil dump sites and several dug-out pits also laden with illegally obtained crude in Bonny, Rivers State.
The Navy said the operations underscore its commitment to eradicating oil theft and economic sabotage in the region.
