The National Assembly is deliberating on a bill that seeks to extend voting rights to inmates in correctional facilities across the country.
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, said the proposal forms part of the ongoing amendments to the Electoral Act. He explained that the bill also mandates the release of funds for general elections at least one year before the polls to enhance effective planning and execution.
According to Bamidele, the 2025 Electoral Bill contains over 20 new provisions aimed at improving the electoral process and distinguishing it from previous election laws.
