The Nigerian Medical Association NMA, has described the statement credited to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige that Resident Doctors pay for their residency training abroad as “hate speech.”
President of the NMA, Prof Innocent Ujah who made this known in a statement, said the Minister’s comment is capable of bringing down the health sector in the country.
He said the government needs to prioritise and improve healthcare delivery to Nigerians, and also improve the welfare of Medical practitioners, in order to resolve the lingering crises.
Prof. Innocent also noted that in saner climes, Resident Doctors work as they are being trained and they are paid by their employers.
He urged the government to meet the demands of the striking doctors, so they can return to hospitals.
