President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Tope Osundara, has raised fresh concerns over the state of Nigeria’s healthcare system following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari in a United Kingdom hospital.
In an interview with PUNCH Healthwise, Osundara said the former president’s passing outside the country highlights a continuing lack of trust in Nigeria’s medical infrastructure, especially given Buhari’s history of seeking medical attention abroad despite significant government spending on domestic healthcare during his tenure.
While offering his condolences, Osundara described Buhari’s death overseas as symbolically damaging, stating it further weakens public confidence and discourages investment in Nigerian hospitals.
