The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismantled a syndicate distributing unregistered drugs in the Abuloma area of Port Harcourt under the guise of missionary and healthcare activities.
The Director of NAFDAC’s South-South Zone, Chukwuma Oligbu, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday. He said the operation followed a tip-off from a concerned resident, which led officials to the syndicate’s location where unregistered eye drops, cleansers, bottled water, and tablets were being distributed to unsuspecting members of the public.
Oligbu confirmed the arrest of one suspect, identified as Mrs. Gladys Theophilus, who was allegedly administering the products.
He warned the public to avoid products from the group, stressing that none are registered or approved by the agency. Oligbu also urged residents to report suspicious drug-related activities, assuring them of protection and confidentiality.
