The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed the Idumota drug market in Lagos, along with two other major drug hubs—Onitsha in Anambra and Ariaria in Aba—as part of a nationwide operation against counterfeit, substandard, and expired medicines.
The week-long enforcement exercise targets over 5,000 shops, warehouses, and packaging stores, aiming to eliminate harmful medical products from the pharmaceutical supply chain. Security agencies, including the Military Police, Secret Service, and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, are supporting the operation to ensure compliance.
The Agency said so far, seven trucks loaded with suspected falsified and expired drugs have been confiscated. NAFDAC emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public health by removing unsafe medicines from circulation. Shop owners are cooperating with the agency, while security personnel maintain order during the crackdown.
