828 cartons of Bioflex infusions supplied by Biomedical Company Limited, Ilorin, have been destroyed by NAFDAC following a consumer complaint from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika.
The Agency in a statement said the complaint involved the presence of suspended particles in the infusions, prompting an investigation by the NAFDAC’s North-West Zonal Office (NWZ).
NAFDAC also said the laboratory analysis revealed that the products failed sterility tests, posing potential health risks. “With the approval of the Director-General of NAFDAC, the NWZ oversaw the forfeiture and subsequent destruction of the contaminated infusions. The products were removed from their secondary packaging, crushed, and buried, while the cartons were burnt to ensure complete disposal.“
The agency assured that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and quality of medical products in Nigeria and urges the public to promptly report any suspicious products for swift regulatory action.
