The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested a man, Anthony Chidi, at Mile 3 Market in Diobu, Port Harcourt, for allegedly producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages in an unhygienic environment.
According to a statement from the agency, Chidi was apprehended inside a filthy shop, where he was found washing used bottles of various alcoholic brands and refilling them with unwholesome drinks for resale. During the raid, officials discovered contaminated empty bottles, ethanol, bottle caps, and packaging materials.
NAFDAC reported that Chidi confessed to operating the illegal business for about a year, sourcing labels from Aba and acquiring used bottles for his production. Authorities have evacuated the shop and seized all items for further investigation.
