The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Federal Government to fully integrate Shari’ah courts into Nigeria’s judicial framework.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 1, 2025, the group’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, argued that the current judicial system is imbalanced, as Shari’ah courts are absent in some regions of the country while common law courts operate nationwide.
MURIC urged the Federal Government to accord Shari’ah courts the same recognition as federal courts by establishing them across all states of the federation, similar to the Federal High Courts.
The group insisted that ensuring equal availability of Shari’ah courts would promote fairness and religious inclusivity in the nation’s legal system.
