Telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, has rewarded the Super Falcons with N150 million and hosted the team to a special breakfast reception in Lagos following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The reception, held at the Eko Hotels & Suites, celebrated the Falcons’ dramatic 3-2 comeback win against hosts Morocco in Rabat last Saturday, which secured Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title—more than any other African nation.
Speaking at the event, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed gratitude to MTN for the generous support and recognition but noted that the team’s sights are now set beyond Africa.
“We appreciate this gesture from MTN, but our dream is to be global contenders. We want to come back to you as World Cup champions. We’re not content with just being African champions,” said Ajibade, who recently parted ways with Atlético Madrid Femenino.
She acknowledged the weight of responsibility that comes with such ambition but assured that the players and officials are committed to making Nigeria proud on the world stage.
The lavish reception underscores MTN’s continued investment in sports development and its commitment to celebrating excellence in Nigerian football.
