Joy Omozuwa, mother of the 22-year-old UNIBEN student that was raped and murdered at a church in Benin, Edo State few weeks ago, said what happened to her child is very painful. Mrs. Joy,said she never expected her daughter will die that way.
The mother who cried profusely and uncontrollably during a chat with journalists made this known in her apartment yesterday. Narrating the incident she said “We rushed her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH); they conducted test but the doctors said this is head injury and there is no assurance of survival (meaning it is 50/50). However, they promised to do their best and which they did. Unfortunately, I lost her on Saturday”.
The devastated mother who said the late Uwaila, was the second daughter, noted that for the past five years, she always went to the church to read. She described her as the most decent and intelligent child of all her children.
Mrs. Joy said on that fateful day, she waited for her daughter to return like she always did but to no avail. She became worried and called her line but it didn’t go through. “So, I waited till the time she normally comes home because we agreed that she would always come home early because she had an eye defect which didn’t allow her to see properly at night.”
Joy said later that day, she saw three missed calls on her phone from a friend that resides close to the church. Immediately, she returned the call and she told me to come as soon as possible that something bad had happened,” she asserted.
